Steps to avoid a repo man

NOTE: I cannot and will not be held liable if you end up being injured or killed or have any other legally involved problems due to this information, this is a very risky option depending upon how nice or observant the repo agent you're dealing with happens to be. Do this at your own risk and responsibility.

    1. Make any and all social media private. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc, change your privacy settings so people outside your immediate circle of friends and family cannot see your posts.

    2. Watch out for friend requests from people you do not know. A repossession agent will not hesitate to make a fake account pretending to be a hot, young, teenage girl to get you to add them, so they have access to all your photos, status updates, event invitations, etc.

   3. Beware of what you post. If your social media accounts are not private, don't post public posts to your wall/timeline saying where you'll be, when you're going, etc. Repo agents will use this to their advantage, leaving you wondering how they knew where and when to pick up your vehicle.

   4. Back your vehicle in so that the drive wheels are away from street accessible/tow truck accessibility. If your vehicle is rear wheel drive, have the front of your car pointing towards the street, if it's front wheel drive, have the back of the vehicle pointing towards the street.

   5. If your vehicle is all wheel drive or four wheel drive, you are a much harder target to repossess as the repossession agent will have to put your car on dollys to avoid damaging the transmission.

   6. Always use your parking brake when parking. This is kind of a no brainer and is good practice anyways, however, especially if you have an automatic, make sure to both put your car in park via the transmission, and pull the parking brake all the way up.

   7. Have your vehicle alarmed at all times that you aren't inside it. If you don't have an alarm, install one. Assuming you've followed all the above steps, a repo man must open the vehicle to release the parking brake, having the car alert you to this is an added bonus.

   8. Park your vehicle inside a locked garage or guarded storage area, better yet, off of your listed address that is on file with the bank. This includes both your residence and place of employment.

   9. If you happen to be at home or around your vehicle when the repo agent shows up, get between your vehicle and the repo truck's lift arm as fast as possible, stand between the bumper of your car and the tow trucks bumper.

NOTE: I cannot and will not be held liable if you end up being injured or killed, this is a very risky option depending upon how nice or observant the repo agent you're dealing with happens to be. Do this at your own risk and responsibility.

   10. If a repo truck is hooked to your vehicle, sit inside the vehicle and leave the doors open. A decent repo agent will not leave until you are out of the vehicle, and safely away, the last thing they want is a lawsuit for personal injury.

NOTE: I cannot and will not be held liable if you end up being injured or killed, this is a very risky option depending upon how nice or observant the repo agent you're dealing with happens to be. Do this at your own risk and responsibility.

   11. Record any and all encounters with a repo agent. Don't do anything stupid as this will count against you in your video evidence, and in any video evidence repo agents might produce. Take a video and/or pictures of your vehicle before it leaves to be repossessed if you cannot stop the repo agent any other way, this is for insurance claim purposes in case anything is damaged or stolen.

    12. Do not leave expensive or valuable items inside a vehicle up for repossession. Depending upon the bank, and your relationship with them, they may or may not give you the opportunity to collect your personal property. Repo men will often claim that personal property when the vehicle is prepared to be sold at auction, and receive it at little to no charge. Don't allow your prized Kenwood stereo or custom rims be part of the package.
